H Exp – Mechanics 04 – Resultant of two forces

Aim – To compare the resultant of two forces with the single force which produces the same effect

Instructions

▪ Measure the size of the two forces (F₁ and F₂) being applied to the elastic band
▪ Measure the angle that these two forces make with the horizontal (θ₁ and θ₂)
▪ Replace the two forces with a single horizontal force
▪ Note the size of the single force (F_T)
▪ Compare the sum of F₁cosθ₁ and F₂cosθ₂ with F_T
