H Exp – Mechanics 13 – Explosions

Aim – To compare the total momentum before and after a explosion

Instructions

▪ Note the masses of the two vehicles
▪ Allow the two trolleys to explode apart (click release trolleys)
▪ Note the velocity of the two vehicles before and after the explosion
▪ Calculate the total momentum after the explosion (remember that momentum is a vector quantity)
▪ Repeat the experiment for different masses of vehicles
▪ Use an appropriate format to compare the total momentum before and after the explosion
