H Exp – Radiation and Matter 10 – Laser beam diameter

Aim – To measure the beam diameter at various distances from a laser.

Instructions

▪ Switch on the laser by clicking on the key at the rear of the laser.
▪ Click on the button to observe the screen.
▪ Estimate the diameter of the beam at the position where the laser beam strikes the screen.
▪ Repeat this measurement as the screen is moved back.
▪ The power of the laser is 0.1 mW. Calculate the intensity of the laser beam at the distances measured.
